So many of us casually reach for a bottle of soft drink in the heat of the day, little reflecting on what is packed in the bottle other than water and sugar – artificial colors, flavors, stabilizers and preservatives, many of which are harmful to health. What if you were to have an absolutely thrilling, delicious drink full of natural vitamins, minerals and antioxidants with natural antifungal and antibacterial properties, that promises you good health and vitality?

Acerola cherries (also called Barbados, West Indian, Wild Crepe Myrtle cherries, Malpighia Emarginata) are the richest source of vitamin C as well as antioxidants among all other domestic food sources. It also contains plenty of vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5, B6 and B9 as well as calcium, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium and zinc. Acerola cherries are truly one of the greatest boons of nature to humanity. Please do make and enjoy this wonderful drink.

Acerola Cherry Squash Yum
A delicious health drink for rejuvenation and vitality.

  • 500 gm acerola cherries (fully ripe)
  • 500 gm sugar
  • 250 ml water

  • 500 gm acerola cherries (fully ripe)
  • 500 gm sugar
  • 250 ml water
Acerola Cherry Squash - Fruit drink concentrate
Instructions
To prepare:
  1. Put the cherries into your food processor and grind to fine paste.
  2. Sieve the paste into a vessel using a close meshed stainless steel sieve, rubbing it with your fingers.
  3. Pour the water over the pomace (cherry solids) and sieve it once more to extract all the remaining juice.
To cook:
  1. Set the vessel containing the juice on high heat. Tip in the sugar and stir continuously.
  2. As soon as it comes to a boil, turn down the heat and cook for 10 minutes, taking care to stir continuously.
  3. Switch off the heat and let cool naturally.
  4. When cool, transfer to a clean, dry, airtight bottle and store in your refrigerator.
To serve:
  1. To make a 300 ml. glass of cherry squash, just pour 50 ml. of concentrate and top up with 250 ml. of water or sparkling (carbonated) water (1:5). Stir and enjoy! You will love this drink!
