My husband’s chief hobby is organic gardening and he spends much of his spare time growing a plethora of vegetables and fruits in our garden. I never feel the need to refrigerate any vegetable or fruit as any day, I only have to step out to collect what I need, pesticide and chemical free, fresh and full of prana (life energy) for our table or for my cooking. Any excess produce is simply given to our visiting friends or relatives, their happy smiling faces our reward!
Chief among these vegetables is the tomato. Seasonally, five different varieties of tomatoes are grown. The hard, fleshy, egg-shaped ones, the large, juicy, rounded type, and the old local sour and juicy variety grow side by side with beautiful red grape tomatoes which are the size of quail’s eggs, and the tiny, flavorsome cherry tomatoes which are hardly as big as a man’s fingernail.
From salad to curry, squash to jam, and from hot soup to sauce to wine, tomatoes are indeed a blessing from heaven. My children frequently ask me to make cool, fresh tomato smoothie for them. Of course, I always make more, for as soon as we see the tomato smoothie, my husband and I become children again! I am sure, so would you!
